A free time

I finished English teaching on Sunday. It’s been a good time this week, a free time, with lots of books and the last days in my house. I’ve been reading essays on literature by Milan Kundera, Matthew Arnold, Virginia Woolf, TS Eliot and Schiller.

I’m still alive

And well, I just don’t have much to post. I finish English teaching on Sunday night, 9pm. After that I’ve got a week to leave my house, and then a couple more weeks somewhere in Taiwan. Will write more soon.

Syria

I’m going to Syria. I’m going to arrive there in middle or late June, and either start studying Arabic in Damascus when I arrive, or just find a quiet town (by the coast perhaps) to settle in for a few months and do a lot of writing.

Nearly ready to post

Sorry for the silence everyone. This has been a difficult week. Exhausted from making decisions about where to go, and exhausted from working. I think I have made a decision about where to live next – will tell you soon.

Tea picking in Yilan

Akai, the tea farmer that Qing and I met over Chinese New Year, allowed me to help him and his father finish the tea harvest on Saturday.
